Ff7 How to Get Back Into Gold Saucer
Costa del Sol Harbor
Welcome to Costa del Sol. Heading into town causes a cutscene to play out, where Heidegger is punished for being so bad at his job that not only AVALANCHE got aboard the same ship as the president, but even Sephiroth himself.
Costa del Sol
Check out the bar for a man selling carbon bangles, which greatly increase everyone's defense (except Yuffie, who already has one). Buy some for the road if you're willing to spend the cash. Another building here has some free items in it. With all of that out of the way, pass under the yellow bridge in Costa del Sol to return to the world map.
World Map
Head south a bit so you can travel up the slope of a mountain to the west. This will lead you toward a tunnel to the west. Talk to the old man here before going upwards.
Corel Reactor
Walk down the pathway and use the tracks from the center of the reactor to travel south.
Mt. Corel
Follow the tracks; there's not much else to do here for now. Save at the save point you find and follow the higher tracks until Cloud falls through some of them. As soon as this happens, mash
and hold
so Cloud falls to the left. If done correctly, he'll be able to collect a Wizard Staff for Aeris on his way back up, which increases her attack. There's only one chance at doing this, so hopefully, you used that save point beforehand. There's also a W Machine Gun in a chest at the end of these tracks that greatly increases Barret's attack. On the lower path, the tracks will collapse too; make Cloud fall to the right this time for a star pendant. This is the same item that was left behind the first time you fell down the tracks, so now you have both and don't have to worry about getting anything if you fall again.
Take the upper tracks once again and cross the bridge. Keep moving to the right until you get to a small wooden shack with the lever that will lower the bridge for your other party members. Directly east of the shack, climb up the mountain to find some baby birds holding ten phoenix downs. If you take them, you'll have to fight their mother, a pretty weak foe for such a great reward.
Return to the previous screen and take the lower path to cross the bridge you lowered earlier. The tracks will split again; go down the left path first for some nice items in a cave on the right. Cross a long bridge to get to Corel.
North Corel
Check out the stores and leave to the world map by going to the east exit.
World Map
Save here. If you're ready to continue, then go back into town and use the west exit to move towards the Gold Saucer. I personally used this moment to grind out Limit levels for Aeris and other party members so I wouldn't have to later. Here's a rundown on how this works if you weren't already aware.
A party member will gain the first of two limit break moves in a limit level by killing a certain amount of enemies. After that, the second move is gained by using the new move a certain amount of times. For example, Tifa's Level 2 Waterkick move only unlocks after she's obtained the Level 1 move Somersault and has killed 96 enemies (dealing the final blow) since getting it. After that, the Level 2 move Meteodrive is obtained after Tifa uses Waterkick seven times. These numbers of usage and enemy kills vary depending on each character.
For those okay with using the in-game cheats,
is useful for speeding up the wait times, but
is sometimes not that useful; Aeris's limit break moves don't kill enemies, for example, so any time her limit is full actually prevents her from getting more final blows. If you don't like using the
cheat, then you can heal using either magic in the menu or by resting at the Corel inn. My strategy was to make the other two party members defend while the other did all of the work to rack up kills.
I personally got all six of my party members' six Level 1-3 limit break moves before moving on, and this was entirely unnecessary to do at this point. By the time I was done, everyone was at least Lv30, with my Cloud being Lv34. More power is never a bad thing.
Ropeway Station
When you' arrive at the ropeway station for the first time, Barret will explain what happened to his hometown. Ride the ropeway when he's concluded his tale.
At the top, a woman outside the entrance to the Gold Saucer will sell you either a one time pass for 3,000 Gil or a lifetime pass for 30,000 Gil. If you can afford the lifetime pass, you may as well do so.
Terminal Floor
Once inside, Barret will get upset and leave to Wonder Square. When this happens, talk to Yuffie:
- Go together
This will mess with Aeris and Tifa, making it even less likely that they'll want to date you here later. You can only take one party member with you at a time, so go with Yuffie. If for whatever reason you didn't pick up Yuffie before, go with Red XIII. Jump into the tube to Wonder Square to chase after Barret.
Wonder Square
A cat on another creature will offer to tell you your fortune. His default name is Cait Sith. After giving you a fortune saying that you'll find what you're looking for, but at the cost of something dear, he'll join your party. Head to Battle Square next.
Neat Fact: Cait Sith is a name that originates from Celtic mythology and is pronounced "Kett Shee".
Battle Square
Someone with a gun on his arm has massacred everyone at Battle Square. A man named Dio and his soldiers will arrest you and send you to Corel Prison for your crimes.
Corel Prison
Barret will run off once this trio finds him. Watch out for enemy encounters and head south.
Note: This is the first time you'll be able to make a party member learn their final limit break move with Cait Sith. This, unlike most other final moves, does not require a special item and only asks Cait Sith to deliver the final blow on 40 enemies. When you learn this move (which you don't have to do now, of course), you'll earn an achievement.
Check a house to the southeast to find Barret, who will explain more of his backstory. After he finishes, you'll be given the chance to assemble a party with you and Barret in it. Pick either Red XIII or Cait Sith, then go further south and enter the front of the parked truck for a nap. Then enter the truck's container and talk to a Mr. Coates. He'll explain that the only way back up to the Gold Saucer is to win a chocobo race. Go back to the north where you started and enter the passage previously blocked by a man, now dead. There's another passage for you to walk through before you get to what you're looking for.
Get ready for a one-on-one fight. It shouldn't be that difficult anyway. Once you get a necklace from Dyne, that'll convince Mr. Coates to set you up for a chocobo race. A woman named Ester will be Cloud's manager for the race.
Chocobo Race Jockey Area
On the way up to the race, Ester will explain how chocobo races work.
switches between auto and manual control,
speeds up your chocobo,
slows it down, and
is a speed boost at the cost of more stamina. If you happen to lose your first race, you'll be put back in the jockey area for another attempt. After losing enough times, the game will gradually get easier and easier for you until you win. You may or may not get an achievement for winning a chocobo race after this; if you don't, then you can just get it later.
Dio will give you all a pardon and a buggy for taking care of Dyne for him.
World Map
Use the buggy to traverse across the odd-looking water in the river to the south and look for an odd, circular area in the middle of some heavy forest.
Jungle
You'll find Reno and Rude here; deal enough damage to them in battle, and they'll leave you alone. Focus all attacks on Reno, as he will drop a better item for you: a weapon for Aeris. Head to the northeast.
Meltdown Reactor
There sure are a lot of reactors in this game. After making it further into the reactor, Elena will ask her guard about a Huge Materia and how it can be used to create a powerful weapon. Look where she was looking to find a new Summon Materia. Leave to the world map.
World Map
Put Aeris and Tifa in your party. You're about to bother them even more, making the primary missable achievement in this game even more in your grasp.
Jungle
Go northwest this time and check the west path for a Materia. This path simply leads back to the world map, so go on the north path to reach Gongaga Village.
Gongaga Village
Enter the house in the southeast to learn about a guy in SOLDIER named Zack. Aeris won't take the conversation very well. As much as you probably want to know more about what the ladies are thinking, don't speak to either of them. If you'd like to check out the weapon shop, leave the screen by going south (so you don't accidentally talk to Aeris while trying to get inside). Climb the pole to the weapon salesman for some potentially better gear. There's also a chest in a house in the north that has a White M-Phone for Cait Sith to use.
World Map
Nothing else left to do at Gongaga Village, so take the buggy west, cross another river, put Barret in your party, and enter Cosmo Canyon.
